The logo for Hoboken AI slop sits on a collage of AI generated imagery found in Hoboken, New Jersey, and the surrounding areas.

Hey, I’m Mike Libert. I document the many uses of AI-generated imagery in our small city of Hoboken.

Rather than using AI imagery, let’s support our local artists and encourage scrappy DIY marketing.

Help small businesses share their authentic story, and demand that big businesses hire professionals.

Our Mission

I love and support Hoboken’s local businesses, and want to help them recognize the risks of depending on generative AI for creating their content, such as logo, posters, food photography, etc.

By encouraging businesses to create their own authentic content or hire creative professionals, my hope is that customers will reward them with their loyalty and more importantly, dollar dollar bills $$$$.

Why not use AI-generated content?

But Mike Libert—you might ask—using AI to generate images, video, and text is so easy! Why shouldn’t I use it?

  • It dilutes your authentic brand. You, your business, and your product are unique and special. Depending on generative AI strips that authenticity away.

  • For food—I promise your real food looks way more appetizing. AI generated food is misleading, and just looks nasty most of the time.

  • It communicates a lack of attention-to-detail. If a business is cutting corners on their logo and marketing, where else are they cutting corners? Safety, security, cleanliness, quality? Consumers may to assume the worst.

  • Public sentiment around generative AI is extremely low. You risk alienating customers for very low potential gain.

  • Generative AI hurts artists by consuming their work and regurgitating it, in an effort to erase their livelihoods.

  • AI imagery is associated with political propaganda, scams, and non-consensual intimate images.

  • And possibly most importantly, AI generated images are not subject to copyright protection. Anyone can copy your AI slop without repercussion. AI generated images are automatically entered into the public domain.

What to do instead?

  • Hire a local artist

  • Use an online tool

  • DIY options

Thank you for your attention to this matter. —Mike Libert

About Mike Libert

Hi, I’m Mike Libert. Five years ago I founded Libert AI, an AI-powered surveillance company. We enjoyed tremendous success. I tasted wealth and power. We redefined liberty. Life was good. But all good things come to an end…

One day I was at Hoboken’s finest bar, Wilton House. A guy sitting next to me proudly showed me an AI-generated picture of himself as a shaggy dog-man. The image was very unsettling, it was not cute like a Zootopia Disney animal. Shortly afterwards, he produced one of the most foul farts I smelled in my life, and jokingly waved it towards me with his hand.

Since that day, whenever I see AI images, the memory of that dog-man’s fart rushes back. As AI generated imagery pervades society more and more, the safe spaces where I can hide from that odor become fewer and fewer.

I swore my life against AI generated imagery. I dissolved Libert AI and sold the website to some watch company. Now I work to atone for the sins of my past. May god have mercy on my soul.
